High standards don’t disappear when life moves.
Sub40 is for people who love proper coffee, but don't want their day dictated by machines, pods, or café routines.
We slow-brew specialty beans for flavour and balance, then freeze-dry them at peak flavour.

Superior flavour. Superior process
We're particular about coffee. That's why we created Sub40.

For those who expect more.
Coffee has always been more than a drink. It's a ritual, a reset, a reflection of the standards we hold ourselves to.
Sub40 started because too often, those standards had to bend. Not anymore. We begin with specialty-grade beans, roasted for depth and balance, then cold-brewed and freeze-dried to preserve peak flavour.
The result is extraordinary coffee that holds up. Hot, iced, black, with milk.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Sub40?
Sub40 is freeze-dried coffee made from specialty-grade Arabica beans. Cold-brewed for 18 hours, then freeze-dried at -40°C to preserve depth, aroma, and flavour. It dissolves in water, hot or cold.
How do I make it?
Mix one sachet with 200ml of hot or room temperature water for a strong, full-bodied cup. Adjust with more water or milk to taste. For iced coffee, dissolve in a small amount of hot or room temperature water first, then pour over ice.
What drinks can I make?
Anything. Long black, latte, flat white, iced coffee, cold brew. Sub40 holds up however you take it. Hot, iced, black, with milk. One sachet, any coffee you want.
How strong is it?
Each sachet contains between 140mg and 220mg of caffeine depending on the roast. That's roughly 2 to 3 times a standard cup. One sachet is enough for most people. If you prefer something lighter, dilute to taste.
How long will a box last me?
Depends on your caffeine intake. If you drink one a day, a 36-pack lasts just over a month. If you're replacing multiple cups, it may go faster. Some customers batch-make a cold brew concentrate and keep it in the fridge for a few servings.
What's the difference between the three roasts?
Ethiopia is light and floral with fruity notes. Brazil is smooth and chocolatey with a nutty finish. The Sub40 Blend is bold and balanced, our highest caffeine option. The Discovery Set includes all three so you can find your preference.
How should I store it?
Sealed sachets keep for at least 12 months. Once opened, use promptly. The freeze-dried crystals absorb moisture from the air and will clump or soften if left exposed.
Is this instant coffee?
Sub40 dissolves like instant coffee, but the process is different. We cold-brew specialty beans for 18 hours, then freeze-dry at -40°C to lock in flavour. Most instant coffee is heat-processed, which strips out depth and leaves bitterness. Sub40 keeps the complexity and smoothness of a proper brew.
Can I make it with milk?
Yes. For milk-based drinks, dissolve the sachet in a small amount of hot water first, then add your milk. Just like any brewing method, too much milk and not enough water dilutes the flavour and masks the nuance. Start with water, then build your drink.
